Mirna Peč combines visible history with paths that connect culture and landscape. The foundations of the early modern Tabor of Mirna Peč are presented on site in the paving. The Tabor of Mirna Peč was built in the early 16th century as a fortification to protect against Ottoman raids.

Culture

Another distinctive site is the Župnijska cerkev sv. Kancijana. It has been documented since 1433 and features an art-historically significant, well-preserved Gothic chancel. Construction work on the church was completed in 1917. The connection between literature, music and movement is reflected in the Pot Slakove in Pavčkove mladosti. The 12-kilometre hiking route begins in front of the cultural centre in Mirna Peč and ends at the Muzej Lojzeta Slaka in Toneta Pavčka in Mirna Peč. At a moderate walking pace, it takes around three hours. The annual commemorative hike in Mirna Peč recalls the Slovenian poet Tone Pavček as well as the accordionist and singer Lojze Slak.

Pot Temenica offers a different route. The marked hiking trail is 6 kilometres long and passes through six points marked on the map. It is suitable for families with children as well as hikers with average physical fitness. Thus, in addition to the longer route thematically connected with two prominent figures, shorter routes with designated stops are also available.

Nature

One of the landscape’s points of interest is Zijalo. This is where the Temenica emerges to the surface for the second time. Beneath a 35-metre-high rocky cliff there is a floodwater overflow, or the Vodna jama pod Zijalom water cave. Due to its hydrogeological and geomorphological characteristics, Zijalo is protected as a natural monument.
