Miren combines scenic views, cultural history and active experiences. Mirenski Grad hill rises 120 m above sea level and offers spectacular views. The Vipava River flows through Miren. This means that diverse landscapes and historic sites exist side by side within the village itself.

Culture

The Church of Our Lady of Sorrows stands at Mirenski Grad. The first records of it date back to 1488. The church was built in the Neo-Romanesque style, following the ground plan of a basilica. The route there also bears traces of history: the first Stations of the Cross along the footpath to Mirenski Grad were erected in 1757. The church and the approach therefore combine several clearly identifiable elements of the village’s history, without reducing Mirenski Grad to a single aspect of interest.

Another special feature can be found in the Miren cemetery, which houses the Museum Collection Miren. This location adds its own collection to the historical perspective and extends the cultural tour beyond Mirenski Grad.

Things to do

The guided cycling and culinary tours offered by Mirenski Kostel are available in various lengths and difficulty levels, accompanied by a licensed cycling guide. These tours include stops featuring traditional Kras specialities and wine tastings. The tour format therefore combines cycling with regional flavours and a guided route.

The Sightseeing Kras Tour has a difficulty rating of 2/5 and runs over gravel and asphalt. Its route leads from Miren via Kremenjak and Špik to Cerje and then back to Miren. Miren is also the starting point for the hike From Miren to Cerje: it begins in the village of Miren and has a moderate difficulty level. On this hike, the views extend from the Alps to the Adriatic.

The E-Bajk.si point in Miren rents out e-bikes for exploring Miren Kras and the surrounding area. Fly fishing, spinning, Spey casting and bottom fishing are possible along the lower course of the Vipava River in the Miren area. This section is managed by the Renče Fishing Club. Miren also has an electric vehicle charging station in the car park next to the municipal building.
