Grosuplje: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the southeast of the Municipality of Grosuplje lies Radensko Polje Landscape Park. The karst polje, covering just over 4 km², comprises meadows, bushes, forests and ponds that carry water only at certain times. For a stay in Grosuplje, some travellers may want to rent a holiday apartment.

Nature

The “Od Šice do mejice” educational trail is 4 km long and offers insights into the nature and wildlife of Radensko Polje. The landscape park is also home to Vodomčev gaj, with renaturalised wetlands, hedgerows and a traditional orchard with standard trees. These were planted to preserve ecologically significant habitats for numerous animal species. Vodomčev gaj serves as an open-air classroom with organised nature programmes and activities to raise awareness of nature conservation and biodiversity. On a guided circular route through the area, visitors can learn about the local flora and fauna; access is also possible for people with reduced mobility.

Županova Cave is a 700 m long cave where visitors can explore seven underground chambers decorated with stalactites and stalagmites along 600 m of developed cave paths. It features seasonal ice formations and provides a habitat for cave-adapted animals, including several bat species. Visits are only possible with a guide; at the same time, the cave is accessible in all seasons.

The Grosuplje Mountain Trail is approximately 80 km long and can be divided into sections. Since 2015, it has been marked for dual use and can also be used by mountain bikers.

Culture

Tabor above Cerovo is one of Slovenia’s best-preserved anti-Ottoman fortified camps and provides an insight into the defence architecture of the time. The fortification wall includes three defensive towers. The Church of Saint Nicholas also stands at Tabor above Cerovo; its Romanesque design suggests that it was built in the 13th century.

Magdalenska gora was continuously inhabited from the Early Iron Age through the Celtic invasion to the period of Roman occupation. There are 28 clearly visible burial mounds there. Finds include bronze situlae, weapons and other military equipment, various fibulae and jewellery.

The “Čez klance na žgance” tour is a guided walk through Grosuplje focusing on the local heritage of coach transport. The “Po sledeh Louisa Adamiča” tour is a guided literary and cultural walk and ends with a visit to the furniture exhibited from his birthplace and personal items from his life.

Koželj Beekeeping in Šmarje–Sap is a beekeeping museum with beekeeping literature from 1700 to the present day, honeycomb pictures, beehives, honey extractors and beekeeping equipment. A museum locomotive built in Budapest in 1907 stands near Grosuplje railway station. Žabja House is considered Slovenia’s first nature conservation centre.

Geographical Location

Limberk, a mountain, is located in the immediate vicinity of Grosuplje. Kucelj, Mokrec and Lomniki, all mountains, are located in the area around Grosuplje. In the wider regional surroundings of Grosuplje are Ljubljana Castle, a castle, the Emona House Archaeological Park, a museum, and the Prešeren Monument, a monument.

The Grosuplje Tourist Information Centre is located in the centre of Grosuplje on the ground floor of the Koščak building at Adamičeva cesta 15, next to the Grosuplje City Library. It offers brochures, publications and maps, as well as locally made handicraft products.
