Holiday apartment in Ponikve – Nature, waterways and cultural heritage

In Ponikve, the Rašica disappears into a system of sinkholes. Rašica Ponor is designated a natural monument and is located along a municipal hiking route. Marketova jama is connected to the underground course of the Rašica and opens into a mostly dry riverbed. During high water, the Rašica extends its surface course through a dry riverbed to the settlement of Predstruge.

Nature

Brdavsov mlin stood directly beside the Pasnica sinkhole in Ponikve. Along the Rašca stream, a path offers diverse vegetation, including Carniolan lilies, yellow irises and snowdrops. Culture

Domačija Gačnik and Ponikve is a well-preserved building complex with a house and a mill on the Rašica, bearing the year 1833. Kapelica Gospe zdravja and Ponikve was built in 1935 according to a design by the architect Jože Brodnik from Kompolje in the Plečnik style. Brdavsov mlin, also known as “Ta novi maln”, was built in 1870 by Janez Adamič. Brinski skedenj, near Cerkev sv. Florjana, has carved wooden columns from the second half of the 19th century. Kolenčeva hiša has finely crafted and well-preserved ceiling beams. Cerkev sv. Florjana in the centre of Ponikve is a Gothic church with gilded Baroque altars and a vault painting by Postl.

In Ponikve in Dobrepolje, the Ponikovske mačkare is a carnival tradition featuring elements of folk theatre. Every year on Shrove Tuesday, it includes a procession from house to house.
