Holiday apartment in Pravenec: Manor houses, church and historic routes
Pravenec combines a distinctive landscape setting with a diverse local history. At its centre is a late Baroque manor house, built in 1787 and remodelled in the 19th century. The two-storey building has an L-shaped floor plan, an inner courtyard and outbuildings. Together with other historic buildings, it shapes the architectural heritage of the locality.
Culture and history
A Renaissance manor house in Pravenec dates from the early 17th century. It includes original fortifications; in addition, it was remodelled in the Baroque style in the mid-18th century. The fortifications and the later remodelling therefore belong to different phases of its architectural history. Another historic complex is the Pekáre kúria, which is designated a national cultural monument. It stands at its original location and has retained its original spatial layout. The single-storey building originally had an L-shaped floor plan; an open external passageway was added later. This ensemble is complemented by an Empire-style kúria preserved in Pravenec, dating from the first half of the 19th century.
The Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria is also part of the local history. It was built in 1891 and is dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The single-nave building follows the Neo-Gothic style. The sanctuary contains statues of Saint Catherine, Saint Joseph and Saint John of Nepomuk.
Landscape
Pravenec lies in the pravnianian spur of the Upper Nitra Basin, at the north-western foot of the Žiar Mountains. The municipality also extends across the left-bank floodplain and the alluvial fans of the Nitra. This location combines the basin landscape, mountain foothills, floodplain area and the alluvial fans shaped by the Nitra into a clearly defined geographical unit.
