Holiday apartment in Udiča: Klapy, cycle paths and culture
Udiča forms the entrance to the Marikovská Valley and combines a distinctive landscape with cycle paths, a nature and local history educational trail, and traces of regional history. In the Klapy Nature Reserve lies a rocky ridge landscape with thermophilous vegetation and the 653-metre-high Klapov summit. On the southeastern side of the rock there is also the small crevice cave “Cigánka”. In the cadastral area of Udiča, the protected area covers approximately 6.2 hectares and is subject to the fifth level of protection.
Nature and landscape
The landscape of Klapy displays several closely interconnected features: the rocky ridge, the thermophilous vegetation, Klapov summit and the small cave are located within the nature reserve. The southern edge of the municipality of Udiča borders the Nosice Reservoir. Thus, both the protected rocky landscape and the edge of the reservoir form part of the geographical character of the locality, without any further characteristics of the area needing to be inferred from this.
Hiking and knowledge
The “Náučný chodník Klapy” educational trail focuses on historical, archaeological and natural history topics. Mount Klape in the area of the former Veľká Udiča is also associated with archaeological finds: fragments from the Migration Period were found there. In addition, a sandstone mould for casting bronze spirals was discovered on the mountain. The references to Klapy and Klape thus connect the natural environment with the past, while remaining tied in each case to the landscape and find sites mentioned.
Cycling
The “2307 – Udiča – Podvažie” cycle route is 45 kilometres long and is a challenging MTB route. Its sections run along asphalt and surfaced roads. It begins in Udiča at a junction with the Vážska cyklomagistrála. By contrast, the green “5312 – Jasenica – Udiča” cycle route begins in the centre of Udiča. It is an easy recreational MTB route for all age groups. The names, starting points, marking, length, surface and difficulty ratings clearly distinguish the two routes from each other.
Culture and history
The present-day Church of Saint Matthew in Udiča was built in 1783 after the previous church had fallen into disrepair. It was solemnly consecrated on 22 June 1788 and dedicated to Saint Matthew. The church is registered under number 779/0 in the Central List of the Monument Fund of the Slovak Republic. Its history is also connected with Veľká Udiča: historically, Veľká Udiča belonged to the Udiča parish as a branch parish.
Traditional culture is also documented in connection with Veľká Udiča. A glove-making piece woven on a wooden form from Veľká Udiča is recorded in the Slovak Encyclopaedia of Traditional Folk Culture. Mount Dieľ is located in the vicinity of Veľká Udiča. The mountains Dúbravka, Diel and Huštie, as well as the Church of Saint Helena, are also located in the surrounding area.
