Construction of Nová Dubnica began in 1951 based on a design developed by the artist’s studio of architect Jiří Kroha. The socialist model town of Nová Dubnica was built between 1952 and 1956. This chronology highlights the gap between the start of planning and the later implementation. Today, its main axis is Peace Square. The buildings along the boulevard feature covered arcades, while the courtyards of the blocks are extensively landscaped and planted with orchards.

Jozefa, robotníka”, contains a foundation stone blessed by Pope John Paul II. A recurring city festival is Dni mesta Nová Dubnica: it takes place on 29 and 30 May 2026 at Mierové námestie in Nová Dubnica. The programme includes music, dance and theatre performances, a children’s programme, games and competitions, a large fire show, craft markets and all-day refreshments.

The athletics track in Nová Dubnica is located at Hviezdoslavova 2 and is open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The athletics track at the MFK Nová Dubnica stadium can be used for jogging. The adjacent tennis courts in Nová Dubnica can also be used by recreational athletes. Kúpalisko Letka Nová Dubnica will open its doors to visitors for the 2026 summer season. The track’s opening hours provide a clear time frame for training; use for jogging and the recreational sports facilities are separate sporting options.

Hiking and cycling

The White Carpathians offer opportunities for hiking and cycling in the vicinity of Nová Dubnica. The Vršatské bralá rock formations, with a castle ruin, are particularly popular. From the Kolačín district of Nová Dubnica, the viewpoint on the 592-metre-high Markovica summit is about an hour’s leisurely walk away.
