Holiday apartment in Borčice: history, park and chapel

Borčice lies in the Ilava Basin on a terrace above the Váh. The village combines a long history with aristocratic architecture, parkland and ecclesiastical tradition.

History

The first written mention of Borčice dates to 1224 and is associated with the Benedictine Abbey of Skalka. In 1238, Borčice was mentioned under the name Villa Bork. The village belonged to the domain of Trenčín Castle and later came into the possession of several noble families. Villa Bork is closed to the public.

Culture

The Kaštieľ Borčice manor house is listed as a national cultural monument, NKP 702/1. The Neoclassical manor house and its adjoining park served as the seat of the Borčice nobility. Another historical feature is the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. It is a late Baroque chapel built in 1754. Inside are an altar, a crucifix and paintings from the second half of the 18th century.

Holy Masses are held in the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Borčice. A Holy Mass for the church feast was also celebrated there on 11 September. Ecclesiastical tradition is therefore one of the village's notable features, alongside its history of aristocratic rule and construction.

Nature

The park in Borčice was established next to the manor house and was formerly connected to a large orchard. The road divides the park into a western and an eastern section. A rare Nikko fir grows in Borčice Park; it has olive-green branches and originates from Japan.

The linden tree in Borčice is described as being over 500 years old and 25 metres tall. In 1975, it was designated a protected tree because of its cultural, landscape, ecological and aesthetic significance; protection of the linden tree was lifted in 2020.

Getting around

The Strečno–Borčice/Nemšová section of the Vážska cyklomagistrála runs along roads.
