Nature

Dračia studňa is a protected natural monument in the Bolešov Valley. In 1993, it was placed under protection to preserve a tuff mound as a georelief formation; this is considered the largest in the White Carpathians. The natural monument includes waterfalls that are particularly visible in spring after the snow melts. Beautiful icicles form there in winter.

Water and Trails

The Bolešov–Krivoklát educational trail can be reached by bus to Bolešov and then on foot along a 4.5 km green-marked hiking trail; the route involves an elevation gain of 95 m. The combination of bus travel, walking route, trail markings, route length and elevation gain provides concrete figures for personal day planning. This means that different parameters are available side by side for planning the day: a marked route with a fixed ascent and a body of water whose use is explicitly limited to the summer months; both topics require different timing considerations.

History and Culture

The Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle is the parish church of Bolešov. It was built in 1937–1939 according to a design by the architect Michal Milan Harminc and consecrated in 1939. The main and side altars with mosaics date from the time of construction.

The Jewish cemetery is located behind JRD Bolešov. Another historic building is the Bolešov manor house, which originally emerged as a Renaissance manor house in the 17th century. This original Renaissance manor house is the oldest architectural monument of the formerly independent municipality of Piechov, which now belongs to Bolešov. In the 18th century, the manor house was remodelled in the Baroque style and given a Romantic makeover in 1870–1880.

The cultural and social events held annually in Bolešov include Bolešovské hody. The name refers to a recurring date in the local events calendar, while the manor house and church make historical periods from the 17th to the 20th century visible.

Surroundings and Routes

Nearby is the church of Pominovec, located in the cadastral area of Sedmerovec between Bolešov and Pruské, amid fields. It can be reached via a dirt track from Sedmerovec or via a paved path from the former railway station. The Trenčiansky okruh route passes through Bolešov.
