Dubnica nad Váhom combines impressive cultural monuments with historic parks, viewpoints and an educational trail accessible year-round. At its heart is Dubnický kaštieľ, which, as a national cultural monument, forms part of the town’s cultural profile. Its history dates back to 1637–1642, when it was built as the representative family residence of the Ilešházy family.

Culture

Dubnický kaštieľ is not merely a historic building today. It currently houses the Dubnica Museum, a gallery and the town’s information centre. The Dubnica Museum focuses on the history and cultural traditions of Dubnica nad Váhom and the Dubnica nad Váhom region. Thus, architectural history, local memory and cultural institutions come together in one place.

The historic cultural landscape also includes the Church of Saint James the Apostle. It is Gothic and was remodelled in the Baroque style in 1754. At the same time, it is listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of Slovakia. The historic J.B. Magina Park also has protected status: it is a protected cultural monument owned by the town of Dubnica nad Váhom. In the centre of Dubnica nad Váhom, this park offers a place to relax in nature.

Another historical trace leads to the former garden of Dubnický kaštieľ. Jozef Illésházy transformed it into a French-style park. The former garden thus adds its own garden-architectural phase to the history of the manor house.

Nature

The view over the surrounding area is especially striking from the Grotto with its observation tower. It consists of an artificial cave and a wooden observation tower. From the viewpoint at the Grotto with its observation tower, visitors can see across the Považie region and Vršatec. An artificially designed space, a wooden structure and a wide panorama come together here as a single excursion destination.

Trails

The Dubnickým chotárom educational trail is designed as a self-guided walking route accessible year-round. It runs in both directions and is connected to the green hiking trail marking. This keeps the route clearly described in its essential features without prescribing a particular walking direction. The educational trail can be reached from the Dubnica nad Váhom, SPŠ bus stop, followed by a 300-metre walk in a southwesterly direction.

The combination of the educational trail, viewpoint and park adds an open, dynamic side of Dubnica nad Váhom to its historic buildings. Cultural monuments, recreation in nature and a marked trail stand alongside one another as distinct elements of the town.

Events

A fixed date in the events calendar is the 32nd Dubnický folklórny festival. It takes place from 28 to 30 August 2026 in Dubnica nad Váhom and brings together music, dance, singing and vibrant folk traditions. Alongside its buildings, parks and museums, this also gives the town’s cultural profile a distinctly folkloric accent.

Other destinations: Nová Dubnica, Pruské, Bolešov, Sedmerovec, Dulov, Borčice.
