Holiday apartment in Uhrovec – cultural monument and nature reserve

A prominent cultural landmark in Uhrovec is the birthplace of Ľudovít Štúr and Alexander Dubček. It is located in Uhrovec, the birthplace of both figures, and was declared a national cultural monument in 1965.

Culture

The Uhrovské múzeum is an ethnographic museum that has been open since 2004. Museum visits require prior telephone registration from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., as well as on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The collection includes a Gothic bell from 1511 and a Renaissance bell from 1653.

The Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Uhrovec is a Classicist church built in 1817. Another historic building is Uhrovský kaštieľ. The Zaiovcov family gradually converted it into a fortified family residence. In its side wing, the Zay Library contained more than 20,000 volumes. The restoration of Uhrovský kaštieľ is currently suspended due to a lack of financial resources.

Nature

Jankov vŕšok is located in the cadastral area of Uhrovec and has been a nature reserve since 1993. Jankov vŕšok is characterized by calcareous stands of Cornelian cherry-oak forests as well as a large occurrence of orchids. These include the purple orchid and the common orchid.

Memorial

The SNP monument on Jankov vŕšok consists of a memorial mound complex with a pylon and mausoleum. SNP celebrations are held there every year at the end of August.

Paths and recreation

The surviving parts of nearby Uhrovec Castle include a late Romanesque chapel and towers. From Uhrovské Podhradie, the castle can be reached via a green-marked trail in approximately 30 minutes.

The Striebornica recreation area includes an educational trail focusing on aquatic and wetland ecosystems.
