Trnkov: History, Church and Holiday Apartments
Trnkov lies on the northern edge of the Košická kotlina basin, in the Toryská pahorkatina subunit. The built-up area of Trnkov lies in a deeply incised small valley formed by the Trnkovský potok stream. The stream flows in from Maglovec. The location therefore combines the edge of a larger landscape area with a clearly defined valley form and a named tributary.
History and Church
The first official written mention of Trnkov dates back to 1330. Direct records from 1332 and 1333 mention a priest named Kosmas, who served in Trnkov’s church at the time. These early written references therefore include not only the name of the village but also a specifically named person from its religious life.
Another historical trace concerns flax cultivation and processing. In Trnkov, the flax grown there was processed until it was displaced by the developed textile industry. This describes a local connection between cultivation and processing, as well as the change brought about by the development of the textile industry.
The Greek Catholic Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God in Trnkov was built in 1925 and reconstructed and extended in 1994. The church is listed as having 100 seats and 50 standing places. Its construction history therefore includes both its construction in 1925 and the subsequent structural changes made in 1994.
The separate figures for seats and standing places describe the church’s stated capacity in two forms. The sports field is also distinguished by the type of use and its organisation: the sports intended to be played there and the possible basis for reservations belong to different parts of the information about the village.
Village Culture and Leisure
The municipality describes village customs and songs as Trnkov’s predominant folk traditions. This designation explicitly places local customs and songs at the centre of the folk traditions identified by the municipality.
Public facilities include the children’s playground in Trnkov. It is publicly accessible to all residents and visitors to the municipality. There is also a multifunctional sports field intended for football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, floorball, hockeyball, nohejbal and other leisure sports. The list therefore includes both common ball sports and floorball, hockeyball, nohejbal and other leisure activities.
Access to the multifunctional sports field may be organised publicly or on the basis of a reservation. The information thus distinguishes between possible public use and access regulated through a reservation.
For 1 May 2026, the “Teplákovo-pyžamová párty” was announced in Trnkov at 7:00 p.m. as part of the programme.
The event notice should also be read independently: it specifies a particular date in May and a time and remains worded as an announcement. It therefore differs from the church, traditions and public facilities, whose existence is not limited to a specific period.
