Holiday apartment in Ľubotice – church, manor house and cultural monuments

Ľubotice reveals a local history made visible by a stream and unusual architectural features. From the first half of the 13th century, the settlement developed as a linear village along a stream, with a main road running parallel to the Ľubotický potok. The local history encompasses sacred buildings as well as a manor house and technical infrastructure.

Culture and history

The sacred architecture of the village is reflected in two different building histories. The Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Ľubotice was built in 1806 in the Baroque-Classical style. Its most recent renovation and extension took place in 1993. The information on the year of construction and the renovation clearly distinguishes the original period of construction from the later structural alteration. The church has six stained-glass windows, three on the south side and three on the north side. The windows were created based on a design by the academic painter Ladislav Záborský.

In the locality of Šarišské Lúky, the former synagogue dates from 1833. It is registered as a cultural monument under number 383. Since 1997, the building has served as the Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Prophet Isaiah. Thus, both its former function as a synagogue and its later ecclesiastical use have been preserved in the history of this site.

Alongside the sacred buildings, the municipal waterworks building represents a technical aspect of the local history. Underground pipelines and shafts have been preserved inside the building. It is a national cultural monument in the Historicist style; the building is privately owned.

The manor house of Ľubotice also points to an older construction phase. Its origins date back to the early 17th century; it was originally a late-Renaissance building. The manor house is privately owned, has an interesting garden and stands at a distance from the municipality’s detached houses.

Šarišské Lúky also contains finds from the Early Neolithic, dated to the period from 5000 to 3800 BC. The archaeological traces therefore reach far back into prehistory, while the buildings mentioned represent different later periods in the history of the settlement.

Current information includes the PWG Sokol Ľubotice sports complex. It has been open to the public since 1 April 2026. Initially, opening hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; from May, the opening hours extend until 8:00 p.m. in accordance with the operating regulations. The change in May is therefore tied to the operating regulations; for planning purposes, the relevant period is the time when the visit is scheduled to take place.
