Holiday apartment in Vrbov: thermal water, churches and trails

Vrbov draws attention to three clearly distinct themes: warmth, historic religious buildings and trails. The individual facets can be seen in specific pools, buildings, as well as walking and cycling routes. The spectrum thus ranges from the Thermal Park and the heritage area to routes through the surroundings of the village.

Water and warmth

Thermal Park Vrbov has nine pools, including three children's pools. During the winter season, four pools with geothermal and clear water are available at Thermal Park Vrbov. Visitors can use thermal pools with geothermal water there all year round. The seasonal information therefore supplements the year-round reference with the number of pools that are open in winter.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Servác is a Romanesque church from the second half of the 13th century. It is the oldest and most significant object in Vrbov's heritage area and has richly decorated Baroque interiors. In addition, the Church of Saint Servác has a unique dedication in Slovakia. The building therefore combines its Romanesque origins with later Baroque furnishings and a distinctive dedication.

Vrbov's architectural heritage also includes the masonry bell tower, a late Gothic structure with a square ground plan from the 16th century. Vrbov's Evangelical Church is a Baroque-Classical building erected in 1784 as a Toleration Church without a tower. South of the bell tower stands the Immaculata of Vrbov, a Marian column with a statue of the Virgin Mary. These buildings therefore stand alongside one another as different elements of the historic villagescape: church, bell tower, Toleration Church and Marian column.

Linen production is also part of the village's history and has a long tradition in Vrbov. Alongside the religious buildings, this craft likewise points to an inherited part of the village's history.

Trails

The walk around Vrbov begins behind Vrbov at a car park. It follows a comfortable paved path along the shore of the ponds for about 20 minutes before branching onto a farm track. The walk leads to a viewpoint overlooking the peaks of the High Tatras. The route thus links the start at the car park, the section along the ponds, the change onto the farm track and the viewpoint as successive features of the trail.

For bicycles, cycling route 5890 “Zlatná–Kežmarok–Vrbov” is designated. It is 11 km long and has an elevation difference of 120 m; its route runs over asphalt, gravel and farm tracks. On the Slovak side, sections of the Cesta na Spiši from Kežmarok to Huncovce, Vrbov and Strážky have also been completed. The 4.6 km section of the Huncovce–Kežmarok–Vrbov route follows a wide paved path into the centre of Vrbov. This describes both an 11 km route with varying surfaces and a 4.6 km wide asphalt section ending in the village centre.
