Trnovec nad Váhom is situated on the left-bank embankment of the Váh River in the eastern part of the Danubian Lowland. Nature

The landscape includes the Trnovecké mŕtve rameno Váhu protected area, which covers 6.58 hectares. This protected area includes softwood floodplain forests consisting of willows and poplars, as well as wetland communities. Another specific natural feature in Trnovec nad Váhom is an oak tree measuring 18.5 metres in height, with an estimated age of 120 years and a trunk circumference of 319 centimetres.

Culture and History

An important ecclesiastical landmark in the village is the Kostol Premenenia Pána Church. It was built in 1725 at the initiative of the then landowner Štefan Hunyadi. The bell in the bell tower is a movable national cultural monument in the Historicist style, dating from 1911.

The history of Trnovec nad Váhom also reaches back to the period of the Nitra culture. During a rescue excavation in 1975, three graves from this culture were uncovered in the village. The church, bell, and archaeological site thus each represent different chronological layers within the village.

Activities

The Hubert Arrows archery club is based at the Hubert sports shooting range between Trnovec nad Váhom and Selice. The club focuses on target and 3D archery using traditional, modern, and compound bows. At Strelnica Hubert, visitors can also shoot at four shotgun ranges and one rifle range.

Cycling and Railways

The 41.5-kilometre-long, relatively easy leisure route Okolo Váhu runs via Selice and Trnovec nad Váhom before returning to Šaľa. The village is therefore part of a designated circular route connecting several places. The route thus provides a clearly defined setting for a journey that places Trnovec nad Váhom within a connection between several locations.

The Bratislava–Nové Zámky railway line runs through Trnovec nad Váhom. The longest railway bridge in the ŽSR network lies between Šaľa and Trnovec nad Váhom; it is 445.790 metres long. The Vážska cyklomagistrála runs beneath this railway bridge. At this section, the railway line, bridge, and cycle route form a particularly precisely described interaction between transport infrastructure and a cycling route.

Local Tradition

Trnovecká vareška is a goulash-cooking competition and part of the Rozlúčka s letom event. In addition to nature, culture, and movement, a clearly defined culinary event is therefore also part of the village’s public life.
