Kráľová Nad Váhom: Holiday apartment between river, nature and culture

Kráľová nad Váhom combines the landscape of the Váh with protected habitats, cycling routes and a remarkable local culture. The municipality lies in the Podunajská nížina on the right river terrace of the Váh, north of the district town. The river crosses Kráľová nad Váhom from north to southeast. Part of the Kráľová reservoir is also located in the municipality’s cadastral territory.

Nature along the Váh

The CHVÚ Kráľová Special Protection Area for birds covers the cadastral territory of Kráľová nad Váhom. This protected area is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas and has a special function for birds: it serves as an important resting, wintering and roosting site.

Water and cycling routes

The Váh offers good conditions for windsurfing, yachting and water skiing. Those who prefer to explore the landscape on two wheels will find a section of the Vážska cyklomagistrála between Komárno and Šúrovce in Kráľová nad Váhom. The route runs through the municipality over 4.3 kilometres. There is also a cycling route of approximately 4.8 kilometres around the Kráľová hydroelectric power plant. Both routes incorporate the river and power plant area into travel in different ways.

Sport locally

The Športový areál includes a 70 × 100 metre football pitch and a training ground. It also includes an 18 × 33 metre multi-purpose court with artificial turf. It is designed for mini-football, tennis and volleyball. The various playing areas and their dimensions are among the clearly specified facilities of the sports complex.

Culture and history

A notable sacred building is the Kostol sv. Alžbety, a Baroque church built in 1732. It was extended in 1927. Inside is a Baroque high altar dating from the middle of the 18th century. The local sacred landscape also includes the Kalvária of Kráľová nad Váhom, which was probably created between 1928 and 1932. Its 14 Stations of the Cross stand in a linden avenue; inside the hill is the chapel Kaplnka Božieho hrobu.

Another historical element is the Rázsochová zvonica. It was built in 1897 and renovated from February to August 2010. A bronze bell is mounted at the top of a tall wooden post. The Kráľová nad Váhom hydroelectric power plant also belongs to the more recent history of the village: it was built between 1980 and 1985. The power plant contains a monumental work of art by the artist František Chrástek, created during the construction of the facility.

Local village life

Local cultural events include the Obecné dni in Kráľová nad Váhom. They are recorded for several dates, including events in 2023 and on 22 and 23 August 2025. A distinctive Advent tradition is Adventné okná: residents decorate windows that are clearly visible from public roads.

The municipal library Obecná knižnica is located in a building on the village square. Its lending hours are from 14:30 to 16:30 on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
