Holiday apartment in Dvory Nad Žitavou – Culture, Nature and Local Traditions
Dvory nad Žitavou reveals its distinctive character through a combination of sacred architecture, a Calvary, an educational trail, a municipal museum and fruit growing. Culture, landscape and local production can be found here in specific places and through recurring events.
Culture
The Church of St. Adalbert is a Baroque church built in the second half of the 18th century. Its main altar and altarpiece date from 1777. The church also has a Rieger organ, built in 1885, which continues to accompany the church's liturgical life to this day.
The Calvary also preserves several historical elements. The Stations of the Cross on the Calvary, the bell tower and the staircase decorated with sculptures date from 1855 to 1860. During the five-year construction of the Calvary, almost 7,000 trees were planted on the grounds and 14 Stations of the Cross were erected. During Lent, Stations of the Cross devotions are held there on Good Friday; a Holy Mass is celebrated on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
History
The municipal museum opened in 2009. It displays objects, pictures and agricultural equipment that recall earlier times and the values of the municipality. From Monday to Friday, the museum is open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Visits are available by telephone appointment.
Local Life
Emilove Sady is another agricultural enterprise directly associated with Dvory nad Žitavou. Apples, strawberries, peaches, cherries and plums have been grown there since 1966. Every year, Emilove Sady organizes pick-your-own events for strawberries and apples in Dvory nad Žitavou.
Nature
The “Tajomstvá pri rieke Žitava” educational trail is 11.8 km long and has an elevation difference of 25 m. It is self-guided, designed as a loop, accessible in both directions, intended for pedestrians and usable year-round. Its route leads from the municipal museum via the Calvary along the course of the Old Žitava and the Branovský Stream to the vineyards of Dvorské, and then back to the village center.
Leisure
The fishing lakes in Dvory nad Žitavou now serve a recreational purpose. A fishing competition and a triathlon competition are held every year at the “1-es kavicsos” lake. Thus, alongside the historic sites, bodies of water and recurring sporting events also form part of the village landscape.
