Holiday Apartment in Jelenec – Gýmeš Castle and Sweet Chestnut Trees
In the central part of Jelenec stands the Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It is still in use today and stands amid dense vegetation. An architectural survey confirmed the church’s medieval origins and the complete preservation of its medieval tower. The main altar includes a cross originating from Gýmeš Castle.
Culture and Architectural History
A chapel stands on open ground in the northern part of Jelenec’s built-up area. It is a rectangular Baroque-Classical building with a barrel-vaulted interior. Its last restoration took place in the 1990s.
The Forgach Museum can be visited by prior arrangement at least three days in advance. Groups entitled to a guided tour must consist of at least four people travelling together.
Museums
The Tribeč Mineral Museum in Jelenec displays a private collection of minerals collected in Slovakia. A significant part of the exhibition consists of minerals from the Tribeč Mountains and the surrounding areas of Nitra and Zlaté Moravce. Visits must be arranged in advance by telephone or email.
Nature and Trails
The protected Jelenská gaštanica area is located near Gýmeš Castle. It is considered the first known attempt in Slovakia to establish an artificially planted stand of sweet chestnut trees, in 1240 and 1241. The oldest trees are now 300 to 350 years old.
Gýmeš Castle can also be reached via a red-marked hiking trail with a branch onto the green-marked trail through Jelenská gaštanica. In autumn, the chestnut grove may be closed. From the Jelenec-Remitáž recreation centre, the castle can be reached on foot via red- and yellow-marked hiking trails; the walk takes approximately one hour.
Holiday Apartment in Jelenec
When considering a holiday apartment in Jelenec, it is worth reviewing the relevant listing page before booking. Included services, price components, and booking and cancellation conditions are also among the points you can check before completing the booking. When comparing several offers, the respective terms and conditions remain clearly separate. If a holiday house is being considered instead of a holiday apartment, the accommodation type indicated on the page is also decisive. With both types, you can view occupancy and included services individually and take the price components into account within the respective overall picture. The decision is therefore based on the specific details stated for each individual offer, rather than on general expectations of an accommodation. For comparison purposes, occupancy, included services, price components, and booking and cancellation conditions should be considered separately for each offer. What matters in each case is what is specifically stated on the individual page and the scope of the individual services.
