Holiday apartment in Nový Tekov: Churches, Horses and the Hron

Nový Tekov lies on the right-bank floodplain of the Hron River. The history of the crossing over the river includes a former ferry that connected Nový Tekov with Starý Tekov and was replaced by a modern single-lane bridge.

Culture and History

Nový Tekov is home to the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Charles, a Baroque-Classical church dating from 1811. The Reformed Church was built in the Classical style in 1791. Inside, there is a red-marble communion table from 1821 and a Classical pulpit made of red marble from 1829. It was restored after a fire in 1850.

Among the oldest archaeological finds in Nový Tekov is a Roman-Barbarian settlement dating from the 8th to the 9th century. The archaeological finds from the village also include a Slavic inhumation grave from the 9th century. Several original 19th-century houses with farm buildings have been preserved in the Marušová district.

The Nový Tekov Memorial Room is located in the premises of the former one-class school and was opened on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the first written mention of the municipality. It can be visited on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.; visits for organized groups are possible by prior arrangement. The cemetery in Nový Tekov is notable for its old gravestones.

Horses and Experiences on the Hron

The Nový Tekov stud farm was founded in 1861 to breed draft and sport horses. Ranč u Bobiho also offers carriage or wagon rides. The route follows the Hron and returns through Nový Tekov to the ranch grounds. Riding lessons for beginners and slightly advanced riders are available there year-round.

Ranč u Bobiho also offers horseback rides along the Hron River, which are considered an opportunity to get to know the local flora and fauna. The historic Nový Tekov stud farm offered horseback rides, carriage rides and rides in a trotting sulky.

Wine

For May 22, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., OZ Veselí Tekovskí Vinári and the municipality of Nový Tekov invited people to a gathering for the Feast of Saint Urban at the municipal hajlok, featuring gastronomic specialties, music, singing and wine, as well as the blessing of the Nový Tekov vineyards.

For February 6, 2026, a presentation of local wines and the wines of its members was announced after the 12th General Meeting of OZ Veselí Tekovskí Vinári.
