Holiday apartment in Sliač: spa park, thermal bath and culture
Sliač is a Slovak spa town.
Culture
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas in Sliač contains an early Gothic monument with a bell tower dating from the 13th century. The church also houses one of the oldest and largest bells in Slovakia. Other buildings include the manor house of the Bezegh family, an early Renaissance monument, and the Chapel of St. Hildegard, which has been preserved as a Neoclassical monument.
The spa facilities are also part of the town's cultural character: the spa park and several spa buildings belonging to Kúpele Sliač are classified as national cultural monuments of Slovakia. Another historical trace can be found via the municipal visitor platform. Under „Chodník slávnych“, it lists the names Andrej Sládkovič, Božena Němcová, Eva Matejková and Štefan Hudák.
Landscape
The Hron flows through Sliač and divides the town into two spatially separate parts. The western part of the municipal area comprises gently rolling meadows that merge into the hilly foothills of the Kremnica Mountains. The river course and meadow landscape thus form two clearly defined spatial elements of the town.
Spa and trails
The Termálne kúpalisko Kúpele Sliač thermal bath uses CO₂-rich water directly from the town's healing spring. The water temperature is 28 to 32 °C. The bath complex includes a pool for adults and a small round children's pool. The grounds also have a volleyball court and a small-sided football pitch; four tennis courts are located immediately next to them.
The Náučný chodník mestom Sliač runs from Sládkovičova Street via the Church of St. Nicholas to the healing mineral springs of the spa facilities and the Chapel of St. Hildegard. The walking trail is self-guided and linear, can be walked in both directions and is open year-round.
Practical information
The Sliač Tourist Information Centre provides information on hiking and cycling routes. It also looks up train and bus connections for visitors.
