Holiday apartment in Slovenská Ľupča: Ľupča Castle and the Hron Valley

Ľupča Castle stands above the Hron Valley between Banská Bystrica and Brezno. Late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical elements have been preserved there. The surviving elements document the development of castle architecture from the mid-13th century to the present day.

Culture

The Kláštorisko monastery complex also reaches far back into history. Its oldest part, the church, dates from the first half of the 13th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Kláštorisko monastery housed a Protestant lyceum.

Kláštorisko Archaeological Park is located at the entrance to Slovenská Ľupča on the old road from Banská Bystrica and includes the excavations of a medieval monastery. A medieval cellar is open to visitors.

Nature

The Ľupčiansky skalný hríb rises above the left bank of the Ľupčica stream on the Stráň slope. The rock formation was created by the weathering of sedimentary rock under the influence of wind. Harder layers of carbonate conglomerate alternate with softer sandstone interbeds. The Ľupčiansky skalný hríb has been protected by law since 1979.

From the top of the Ľupčiansky skalný hríb, there is a view of the Hron Valley as well as the ridges of the Low Tatras and the Slovak Ore Mountains.

Driekyňa refers to a 10.6-kilometre-long valley formed by the two branches Mokrá Driekyňa and Suchá Driekyňa, which rise on the northern slopes of the Poľana Massif. The valley lies outside the municipal territory of Slovenská Ľupča. The river of the same name, a left-bank tributary, flows into the Hron.

Routes

Below Ľupča Castle run the Via Magna long-distance route in a north-south direction and a regional road leading from the mining towns of central Slovakia via Banská Bystrica and Poniky towards Spiš.

The most important cycling route in the Hron region connects Banská Bystrica with Slovenská Ľupča and runs mostly in the shade of forests. A green cycling trail in the mountainous area, signposted as an easy circular route, has an elevation gain of 230 metres. Around one third of the route runs on asphalt; otherwise, it follows compacted gravel. At a moderate recreational pace, it can be completed in about 90 minutes.

Activities

In the surrounding area, an agency organises rafting trips on the Hron River from May to September. It provides the necessary technical equipment, boat rental and the services of a water sports instructor.
