Sukko combines forests on low, rocky mountains with nature and park attractions that appeal to a wide range of interests. Here you can explore relict juniper, consider a zipline ride over Cypress Lake, or choose between stage shows and active pursuits. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to first consider which of these aspects of the area you want to shape your stay.

Forests and relict juniper

The main area of the Bolshoy Utrish State Nature Reserve in Sukko consists of forest on low, rocky mountains. The reserve is home to relict juniper forests with three species: tall, reddish and stinking juniper. The name of the last species refers to its sharp smell. This means that the forest landscape and the distinctive names of the plants both give the nature theme a specific character.

The boundaries of protected areas can be adjusted through official decisions. Those considering Sukko for its natural environment will find a clearly defined landscape here: forests among low rocks and several species of relict juniper.

Cypress Lake and the cypress trees

The artificial Cypress Lake (“Kiparisovoye ozero,” also “Ozero Sukko”) lies two kilometres northeast of Sukko. It was created in the 1930s, when a dam was built on a stream that flows into the Sukko River. The lake is therefore a different natural and scenic focal point from the forest area in the reserve, and can be considered a distinct theme when planning your trip.

The Dolina Sukko park offers a zipline ride over Cypress Lake. The park describes its centuries-old cypress trees as its main attraction. The cypress trees are a distinct feature of the park; the lake itself was formed by the dam on the stream. Together, these offer visitors various points of interest, whether they are drawn to landscapes, plants or an activity above the water.

Active pursuits in the park

The Khrabroye Serdtse adventure park has three paintball fields and a recreation area. The park also has four rope courses at different heights and with varying levels of difficulty. The first course is intended for children aged three and over: its several simple, short sections run 0.5 to 1 metre above the ground and help develop coordination. This age recommendation applies to the first course.

The creative workshop offers another way to spend time in the park. It has clay figures with various designs to colour, paint and decorate using decoupage. This means that active pursuits and a creative activity are available side by side. Check the park’s current operating status before visiting.

Shows and guided excursions

From May to September, the seasonal programme at Afrikanskaya derevnya includes daily three-hour shows for audiences of all ages. The programme features various dance styles and a presentation of African culture; competitions and dances with guests involve the audience. The schedule may change, so check the dates in advance.

At the Lvinaya golova castle, performers from the Park-Ekstrim equestrian stunt theatre, professional actors, acrobats, magicians and stunt performers take part in a theatrical show; specially trained horses are also part of the performance. Guests at the castle can also try archery or crossbow shooting. Check the current availability of this activity before your visit. For the guided “Staraya doroga” excursion, groups meet in Sukko; confirm the details with the organiser before travelling.

Which holiday apartment suits your plans?

When looking for a holiday apartment in Sukko, you can prioritise experiences according to your interests: are forests and relict juniper your main focus, are you more interested in the parks’ activities, or would you like to plan a show? These differences can help you clarify what you want from your holiday, rather than treating all the experiences as similar activities. This makes it easier to choose Sukko based on the things you actually want to discover.
