Discover Recaş: Wine, History and Culture
Wine and History
Wine has been produced in the Recaş wine region since the 2nd. Cramele Recaş offers visitors guided tours through vineyards and the winery. Themed wine tastings are also part of Cramele Recaş's offerings.
The history of viticulture is connected both with the vineyards and with the winery. The themed tastings provide a distinct focus alongside the guided tours.
Museum and Cityscape
Recaş's local history museum was opened in the house of doctor Iosif Stitzl after restoration in 2002. The building housing the museum is representative of Recaş's old architecture. The local history section comprises a total of five rooms on the upper floor. The arrangement of the sections distributes local history across the upper floor and the other subject areas across the ground floor.
The ground floor contains an ethnography section. Another section is dedicated to cultural anthropology, while sport also has its own museum area. The museum displays a copy of a document originating from Budapest. This document is dated 11 November 1447 and records the purchase of the vineyards of Recaş.
Recaş's water tower served a technical function in the water supply network. After this function ended, the tower was renovated. The renovated water tower was integrated into the city's tourist tour. Its current place in the tour thus follows an earlier use within the city's water supply system.
The museum therefore has five rooms dedicated to local history alongside the ground-floor areas for ethnography, cultural anthropology and sport. The document dated 11 November 1447 also connects the local history with the purchase of the vineyards of Recaş.
Culture and Tradition
Those wishing to include “Ziua Orașului Recaş” in their plans will find the local community's annual festive event in June. The “Recăşeana” dance ensemble contributes to preserving and promoting the folk traditions of Banat. It is regarded as an expression of Romanian cultural identity in Recaş.
The Herneacova equestrian centre offers riding lessons for amateurs. The Izvin stud breeds, selects and qualifies horses of the Nonius, Ardennes and Thoroughbred breeds. The Ottlik Péter manor house in Izvin was built by Ottlik Péter in 1893.
The annual festival in June also specifies a concrete period for this local community event. In Izvin, the stud's work with three horse breeds and the manor house built in 1893 stand as two independently stated facts.
