The Muzeul Oului in Vama houses an extensive collection of more than 7,000 eggs from around the world. In 22 display cases, these eggs are divided into the two sections “Eggs from Bukovina” and “Eggs from around the world.”
The “Înălțarea Domnului” church ensemble in Vama was added to the list of historical monuments of Suceava County in 2015. It bears the classification code SV-II-a-B-05654.
The wooden bell tower of the church ensemble was built in 1787. In 2005, the bell tower was reconstructed at the museum. The church and bell tower of Vama are preserved at the Muzeul Satului Bucovinean in Suceava. Together, they form part of an open-air presentation of traditional Bukovinian life.
History and Remembrance
Stâlpul lui Vodă is also known by the two names Crucea Tătarilor and Piatra Tătarilor. Stâlpul lui Vodă was erected in 1717 at the behest of the Moldavian ruler Mihai Racoviţă after his victory over Austrian troops.
The “Martirii Bucovinei” monument in Vama bears a marble plaque commemorating Dumitru Cătană and Gherasim Nicoară. Both were soldiers in the Austro-Hungarian army. They were killed in Satulung (Brașov) in October 1916. They dug their own graves so as not to shoot at their Romanian brothers.
The Orthodox wooden church “Sfântul Nicolae” in Vama was built in 1796.
