A marked mountain hiking trail begins in Prisaca Dornei at an altitude of 570 metres. The trail leads over the summit of Runcul Prisăcii at an altitude of 1,141 metres. In this way, the route connects the starting point in the village with a named summit and leads from the Moldavian landscape up into the mountains. For a marked mountain hiking trail, current information on route conditions can be checked before departure, before the hike begins.

Nature and Hiking

In the Obcina Feredeului Natura 2000 site, the southern boundary between Pojorâta and Prisaca Dornei largely follows the valley of the Moldova. The lower valley of the Sadova River, up to its confluence with the Moldova, is excluded. From Prisaca Dornei in the Moldova Valley, the eastern boundary runs in a south-southeasterly to north-northwesterly direction as far as west of Brodina in the Suceava Valley and follows an irregular course.

Several named elevations are located around Prisaca Dornei: the peaks Vârful Runcul Sandului, Vârful Runcul Dei and Vârful Negureşti, as well as Dealul Socilor mountain. Together with the marked mountain hiking trail and the summit of Runcul Prisăcii, they form a landscape in which paths, valleys and mountain names are closely interconnected.

Culture and History

Prisaca Dornei is home to two churches with clearly datable construction histories. The Church of Sfinții Arhangheli Mihai și Gavriil was built between 1821 and 1825. The Roman Catholic church dates from 1911. Thus, the religious buildings date back to different historical periods, without confusing their respective dates of origin. Current opening hours for churches and monasteries can be checked in advance, as these times are crucial for planning a visit.

There are also several religious destinations in the area around Prisaca Dornei: Schitul Rarău Monastery, Mânăstirea Moldoviţa Monastery, Moldoviţa Monastery and Biserica Ortodoxă Deia Church.

The history of the village dates back to 1808 under the name Eisenau, when Prisaca Dornei was first mentioned by this name. Eisenau was a colony settled by settlers from the Zips region of Germany. In 1858, ten finery forges, or iron hammers, in Prisaca Dornei (Eisenau) belonged to Manz's mining empire.

The historic mining landscape also includes a blast furnace in Vama (Prisaca Dornei), which was owned by Wolf Kleinberg. The place name Eisenau, the founding of the colony and the aforementioned mining facilities mark different stages of the history associated with Prisaca Dornei and its surroundings.

Transport

The Prisaca Dornei stopping point is located on CFR railway line 511 between Vama Hm. and Câmpulung Est Hm. The railway line is therefore just as much a part of the village landscape as the mountain hiking trail, the churches and the historical traces of Eisenau. For train journeys, current timetable information for the line should be checked before setting out.

Other places in the same overarching destination context include Sadova, Frasin, Rădăuţi, Vatra Dornei, Cârlibaba, Frumosu, Vama and Şaru Dornei.
