Cuzăplac: Churches, Landscapes and Holiday Apartments

The present-day Reformed Church in Cuzăplac was built in 1905–1906. It was consecrated in a solemn ceremony in 1911. The building preserves the foundations of the former church. The western part of the former church at the site of the Reformed Church in Cuzăplac dates from the 12th or 13th century.

History

The former church was extended by a section supported by Gothic columns. The new bell tower of the Reformed Church in Cuzăplac is 21 metres high and was built in 1884. The bell tower of the former church in Cuzăplac had bells cast in 1727 and 1741, respectively. The furnishings of the Reformed Church include an organ dating from 1850.

The Reformed Church in Cuzăplac has a communion table made in 1767 and decorated with red tulips on a blue background. The crown of the pulpit in the Reformed Church was made in 1855 by the parish priest at the time, Jónás Elek; it is decorated with a pelican and two chicks. In Cubleșu stands the wooden church “Învierea Domnului”, bearing the heritage-list code SJ-II-m-B-05046.

Further historical evidence can also be found within the municipality. The stone Reformed Church in Petrindu is a historic monument within Cuzăplac Municipality. Thus, in addition to the Reformed Church in Cuzăplac, the surviving built heritage includes both a wooden structure in Cubleșu and a stone sacred building in Petrindu.

A Roman route between Cluj-Napoca and Zalău ran through Cuzăplac. Roman masonry made of bricks and stamped bricks was identified along this route. The Roman fort of Optatiana is located in the vicinity of Cuzăplac.

Cycling

The route “Day 1 (Cj-Aghires-Cuzaplac-Mesteacan-Sinteu)” passes through Cuzăplac and is classified as a moderate-to-difficult cycling tour. The route name identifies Cuzăplac as a section between Cj-Aghires and Mesteacan-Sinteu.

Cuzăplac Municipality lies in the Almașu-Agrij Basin, a subdivision of the Someș Plateau. It is predominantly rural and features gentle hills and forests in a diverse landscape. The landscape therefore combines the basin setting with the municipality’s wooded and hilly areas.

Cuzăplac Municipality is crossed by National Road DN1G, which connects Huedin with Jibou. The nearby Gălășeni railway station serves CFR main line 300. This line connects Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and western Romania towards the Hungarian border. The transport situation therefore includes both the national road crossing the municipality and the rail connection via Gălășeni.

Annual livestock exhibitions for cattle, sheep and pigs were held in the municipality. The exhibitions mentioned therefore covered three different animal species and formed part of the municipality’s annual events.
