Culture and History

Baia Mare preserves the Bastionul Măcelarilor, the only surviving tower. It belonged to Baia Mare’s former medieval fortification system.

The Muzeul Satului is an open-air museum. Its traditional buildings come from the ethnographic regions of Chioar, Maramureșul Istoric, Lăpuș and Codru.

Traditional houses are among the buildings on display. Agricultural outbuildings are also part of the exhibition. The technical installations include an oil mill, a wine press and a threshing machine.

Thus, at the Muzeul Satului, residential buildings, agricultural outbuildings and technical installations are presented together alongside the regionally characteristic buildings. The exhibition therefore combines several forms of traditional architecture and rural technology.

The Muzeul Județean de Mineralogie "Victor Gorduza" Baia Mare presents an overview of the Baia Mare–Maramureș mining region. This overview is visual and interactive. It focuses on the history and geological features of this region.

Dealul Florilor is a summit. It is located in the vicinity of Baia Mare.

Dealul Someş is another summit. Its classification refers to the vicinity of Baia Mare.

The Cosmos and Events

The Observatorul Astronomic Baia Mare enables live observation of the cosmos. It uses telescopes for this purpose. Its equipment also includes a rotating mechanical dome.

The observation combines the telescopes with the dome’s movable structure. The observatory thus makes both the optical instruments and the technical equipment of its astronomical facility visible.

The Teatrul Municipal Baia Mare organizes the Festivalul Internaţional de Artele Spectacolului ATELIER. The organization has existed since the 2005/2006 theater season.

The festival is therefore permanently linked to the program of the Teatrul Municipal Baia Mare, and its history dates back to the 2005/2006 theater season.

The Gradina Zoologică Baia Mare is a zoo. It is located in the vicinity of Baia Mare.

ASTROMANIA is a camp. Its subject area encompasses astronomy and applied science. The camp takes place annually. July is designated as the event month.

With the observatory and ASTROMANIA, astronomy and applied science appear in two different locations and in two different event formats: as live observation of the cosmos and as a camp held annually in July.
