Discover Rudeni: Churches, Fort and Planned Green Spaces
Culture and History
Rudeni combines a documented local history with notable religious buildings. The Biserica Parohiei Rudeni is a historic monument. The church was built from 1850 onward, and Tudor Vladimirescu prayed at this location in 1821. Construction work on the new church was completed in 1872; it was dedicated to the “Sfinții 40 de Mucenici”. The first historical record of Rudeni also dates back to 1821. At that time, Tudor Vladimirescu’s army stopped in the hamlet of “Catane”. Church construction and local history are therefore linked by a narrowly defined chronological context that becomes visible during a tour of the town’s historical themes.
Fort and Monastery Church
Northeast of Strada Rudeni lies the archaeological site of Fortul 1 - Chitila de la Bucureşti. Fort 1 Chitila was built between 1888 and 1897 and was the first fort in the fortification ring around Bucharest. Its pentagonal structure comprises a central redoubt as well as surrounding storage, accommodation and other rooms. The site is therefore one of the military-historical locations in the area around Rudeni, while the nearby church of Chiajna Monastery adds a religious accent. Its construction was begun or carried out between January 2, 1775, and April 23, 1782, respectively.
Other places: Corbeanca, Balotești, Mogoşoaia, Afumați, Popeşti-Leordeni, Dascălu, Otopeni and Chiajna.
Landscape
The waters of the Dâmbovița and the Chiajna floodplain border Rudeni to the southwest. The Pădurea urbană Chitila project is located in the Rudeni district. Strada Fortului and Strada Panduri are named as access routes envisaged for the project. Open landscape areas and specific street references are thus part of a project located within the district.
Leisure and Paths
Another project concerns Parc Valea Mangului in Chitila. Plans include promenades, a green amphitheater square, a children’s playground, a sports area, a skate park, a roller-skating rink or potentially an ice-skating rink, as well as a fitness area. The project also envisages converting a 61,734 m² degraded and unused area into green spaces and areas for recreation and leisure. The various types of facilities therefore range from paths and sitting areas to sports and play areas.
The bicycle-path planning is also defined in concrete terms. The City of Chitila’s bicycle-path project envisages a route approximately 7.7 kilometers long in total. The approximate length is explicitly a project specification. For planned paths and facilities, current information on route conditions, opening hours or dates can be checked before traveling.
Transport
Route 429 runs between Chitila – Pasaj CFR and București – Bd. Preciziei. In addition, the railway in Chitila lies on the European Rhine–Danube TEN-T transport corridor. Thus, both a specific bus connection and a higher-level railway connection are associated with Chitila.
