Geoagiu-Băi combines thermal springs with Roman traces and several historical and geographical destinations in the nearby and wider regional area.
Other destinations in the same broader area include Râu Bărbat, Geoagiu, Orăştie, Gurasada, Petrila, Petroșani, Brad and Diemrich.
Nature
Geoagiu-Băi is situated at an altitude of 350 metres in an area with pronounced geological activity. These geological conditions explain the formation of the mesothermal springs. The spring water is calcareous, thermal and rich in iron. It has a temperature of 33°C and is classified as oligometallic mesothermal water. The springs therefore combine mineral properties, warmth and a clearly defined water classification.
The thermal facilities include the Băile Daco Romane tourist complex. Its grounds contain thermal-water pools, including an Olympic-size pool. Three of the eight springs in total are located along the avenue leading to the recreation areas. For planning around thermal-water pools, current opening hours and applicable information from the respective operator can be checked. Operational information can also be taken into account before travelling if thermal-water pools are a regular part of the day. Opening hours for thermal-water pools are among the details that can be checked before travelling. If a visit to the pool complex is planned, the operator’s current information can also be incorporated into preparations.
History
The Roman Road connected the fort at Cigmău and the Roman baths with the gold-bearing area of Săcărâmb. Its historical connection therefore extends beyond individual structures and places several named sites and landscape references within a shared ancient context.
The Dâmbul Romanilor archaeological site, with a Roman thermal complex, is located in Geoagiu-Băi. The complex was identified in 1987 during construction work on the modern bathing facility. The work uncovered pools, channels and heating systems. The site therefore comprises pools, channels and heating systems as distinct components of the Roman thermal complex.
Culture
Another historical period is represented by the Orthodox “Assumption” Church in Geoagiu-Băi. It was built between 1929 and 1932. Another historical destination is Hunyad Castle, a castle in the wider regional area around Geoagiu-Băi. The church is therefore part of the local history of Geoagiu-Băi, while the castle is classified as a destination in the wider regional area. The church was built in the 20th century, whereas Hunyad Castle is located in the wider regional area.
Geographical Setting
Dealul Uroiului, a hill, is located in the surroundings of Geoagiu-Băi. In the wider regional area are Vârful Fericelii, a mountain, as well as Dealul Archiei and Dealul Gridului, which are hills. The geographical names thus range from a hill in the surroundings to a mountain and hills in the wider regional area. For named landscape destinations, current route conditions and traffic plans can be checked before travelling; their classification as a hill or mountain remains unaffected by this.
