Brad bears witness to the history of mining, regional culture and the railways. At the Muzeul Aurului, this focus is reflected in native gold, miners’ lamps, mineral flowers and mining tools. Particularly noteworthy are specimens of native gold from the Metaliferi Mountains. The exhibition thus leads from mineral specimens to the equipment associated with mining. The displayed exhibits include both specimens of native gold from the Metaliferi Mountains and mining equipment. Miners’ lamps, mineral flowers and mining tools, together with the native gold, form the aforementioned components of the exhibition.

Culture

The Muzeul de Etnografie Brad was founded in 1987 and displays exhibits representative of the ethnography of Țara Zarandului. The collection comprises around 1,800 objects, including more than 120 items of national cultural heritage. The permanent exhibition is divided into a secular and a sacred section. The secular section represents worldly areas of life, while the sacred section brings together religiously influenced exhibits. The ethnographic collection thus combines its regional connection to Țara Zarandului with a clear division of the holdings on permanent display. Its size is indicated by the approximately 1,800 objects, which also include the more than 120 items of national cultural heritage.

Monuments

Several prominent historical landmarks can also be encountered in public spaces. The Casa de Cultură in Brad is located in the former headquarters of Societatea “Mica”. In Brad’s central square stands the “Noi Dacii” monument, created in 2006 by the sculptor Ioan Vasile Grama. The statue of Horia stands in front of the post office.

At another historical landmark stands the copy of the Lupa Capitolina in Brad. It is regarded as a symbol of the Latin identity of the Romanian people.

History and Railways

A standard-gauge steam locomotive belonging to the national cultural heritage, which was brought to Brad from the Petroșani locomotive depot, stands on Avram-Iancu Street at the intersection with Ion-Creangă Street. Its location is on a preserved section of the Brad–Deva railway line.

The building of Gara CFR Brad is a cultural heritage building in the Austrian style. It was built 115 years ago based on the design of a railway station in Tyrol (Austria). Thus, both a preserved vehicle and a historic building are part of the railway history, each identified by its respective named locations and historical references.

Mining History in the Surrounding Area

The history of ore extraction includes the Muncelu–Brad necropolis, also known as “Treptele Romane”. It comprises 115 graves from the 2nd and 3rd centuries and documents advanced ore extraction and processing, as well as underground mining in galleries. The necropolis connects the stated period with traces of ore extraction, processing and underground mining. Its name, “Treptele Romane”, appears alongside the name Muncelu–Brad and the 115 preserved graves.
