Discover Gurasada: Culture, Nature and Adventure

Gurasada Park is an adventure and climbing park in the Mureș Valley on the E 68. It is located in the village of Gothatea, in the municipality of Gurasada. The park has two treetop adventure courses. They have different levels of difficulty and are designed for children and adults.

Other destinations: Sălaşu De Sus, Mălăești, Brad, Vața De Jos, Teliucu Inferior, Simeria, Şoimuş and Geoagiu.

Culture and History

Near Câmpuri-Surduc, on the “Cetăţuia” promontory north of the village, there is a La Tène fortification in the administrative area of Gurasada. It was a Geto-Dacian fortification dating from the 1st century BC to the 2nd century AD. Its wall consisted of unworked stones held together with earth. The upper part was made of wood. The “Cetăţuia” promontory refers to the site north of the village where this fortification is located.

Gurasada was first mentioned in historical documents in 1292 under the name ZAD. A prehistoric Paleolithic settlement is recorded in Gurasada.

The village of Gurasada is home to the Klobosisky manor house and its adjoining park. The park covers approximately 2.50 hectares.

The Church of the Holy Archangel Michael in Gurasada is a 13th-century historical monument. It preserves naïve-style interior paintings. These are associated with works begun in 1765 by Ioan of Deva and Nicolae of Pitești. Because of its vaulting system and execution, the church is described as a Romanesque monument in Central and Eastern Europe with a unique character due to its expanded program.

Traditions and Events

The traditional Ruga takes place every year on the last Sunday in July. The annual Community Day is a cultural and sporting event. It takes place on the last Sunday in July in the nature park of the village of Gurasada. Both events therefore take place on the same Sunday in July.

The Winter Customs Festival includes Christmas carols and performances. Children from Gurasada and the other villages take part in the performances.

Nature and Landscape

The Gurasada stream is a tributary of the Mureș. It flows into the Mureș upstream from Gurasada, between Gurasada and Gothatea.

A karst landscape extends across the village of Boiu de Sus, in the administrative area of Gurasada. It stretches from Cărmăzănești to Glodghilești. There is a cave system comprising 27 documented natural cavities. It includes 24 caves and 3 shafts.

Boiu de Sus, in the administrative area of Gurasada, is also home to a nature reserve for horned vipers. It is unique in Europe. The karst landscape, cave system and nature reserve are therefore all associated with Boiu de Sus in the administrative area of Gurasada.

Transport and Stop

National road DN 7 crosses the administrative area of the municipality of Gurasada. It runs east-west. An access road is recorded for the Gurasada stop. It is located between km 510+687 and km 510+737.
