Sâncrai brings together ecclesiastical art, regional handicrafts, peaks and festivals across a range of cultural and landscape themes. In the village, the Roman Catholic parish of Sâncrai is dedicated to Saint Stephen the King. The Roman Catholic Church of Sâncrai was built between 1796 and 1799 on the site of an older church.

Church and Sacred Art

The painting on the main altar of the Catholic Church of Sâncrai depicts Saint Stephen presenting his crown to the Virgin Mary. For those interested in culture, the focus here is on a specific sacred scene, not merely on the dedication of the place. Saint Stephen thus appears once as the patron saint of the parish and once as the figure depicted, while the crown and the Virgin Mary define the subject of the painting.

Bobbin Lace and Connection

Regional handicrafts are also part of Sâncrai’s cultural landscape. Szentkirályi bobbin lace became known not only nationally but also abroad within a short time. Székelyszentkirály is a member settlement of the Szent Király Szövetség. The bobbin lace adds a handicraft theme, while Székelyszentkirály’s membership represents an organized connection. For those interested in culture, Sâncrai offers two specific cultural highlights side by side: the altar painting of Saint Stephen and Szentkirályi bobbin lace.

Museum, Monastery and Monuments

The Muzeul Municipal Haaz Rezso Odorheiu Secuiesc, a museum, is located in the vicinity of Sâncrai. Also located there are the Mânăstirea Romano-Catolică Odorheiu Secuiesc, a monastery, the Monumentul Eroilor, a monument, and the Monument Statuia lui Orban Balazs. The cultural destinations in the surrounding area therefore range from a museum and a monastery to two monuments.

Peaks in the Surrounding Area

The Culmea Laz peak is located in the immediate vicinity of Sâncrai. The Dâmbul Mare, Vârful Cetatea Buda and Vârful Capul Popii peaks are located in the surrounding area of Sâncrai. For landscape planning purposes, Culmea Laz can be considered separately from the three other peaks because of its closer spatial location. Those wishing to combine nature and culture can pair the church and handicrafts with the four peaks Culmea Laz, Dâmbul Mare, Vârful Cetatea Buda and Vârful Capul Popii.

Festivals with Varied Programmes

The gathering of the Szent Király Szövetség began in the church garden of Sâncrai with an open-air mass. The programme of the Sâncrai Lavender Festival included cultural events, community activities, competitions, food, concerts and an open-air party. At the Szent István Napok 2025, the programme included sports championships, a cooking competition, activities for children, skill games for adults, performances by folk-dance groups, concerts and parties. Festival activities thus range from a religious opening to culinary, sporting and musical programme items.

Time-Sensitive Bridge Notice

Regarding the local infrastructure, as of 16 September 2025, the reconstructed bridge over the Bosnyák Stream in Sâncrai was scheduled to open to traffic on 17 September 2025.
