Bașcov combines a religious building listed as a monument with another dated church and an archaeological site. The Church of Saint Dumitru and Saint Nicholas in Bașcov is listed as a historic monument under code DJ-II-m-B-08185. Its construction dates back to 1842. In the village of Sopot stands an Orthodox church dedicated to the Holy Emperors, dating from 1890. The years 1842 and 1890 mark different periods of origin for the two churches mentioned. The La Bărzuica archaeological site is located in the area of Sopot commune, west of the village of Sârsca, on a hill. The churches and the archaeological site combine sacred architectural history with archaeology. Historic churches and archaeological sites represent different chronological reference points: the year of construction refers to the creation of a building, while a site such as La Bărzuica offers a different way of accessing the past. Before visiting such sites, travellers should check current opening hours. For travelling along a road project, it is also advisable to check current route conditions and traffic information in good time before departure.

Other places on the same level are Pielești, Călăraşi, Calafat, Vârtop, Podari, Bechet, Craiova and Coţofenii Din Faţă.

Landscape and Settlement Pattern

Bașcov belongs to Sopot commune, which lies on the Raznic River. The landscape of this commune is characterised by low foothills and narrow valleys. The named valleys include Valea Rece, Valea Mare and Valea Buciumului. The Raznic and these three valley names belong to a landscape in which the watercourse, hills and narrow ravines together determine the relief.

The houses of Bașcov are scattered on both sides of the hills and are partly hidden by trees. The built heritage also includes small traditional farmhouses with low rooms and earthen floors.

Paths and Road Projects

A communal road project bears the designation DC 73 and covered the DJ606–Bașcov section. For this section, the kilometre points range from km 0+000 to km 4+870. The section between DJ606 and Bașcov therefore runs for these 4.870 kilometres.

The valley connection is also linked to Bașcov. A route from Beloț to Bașcov ran through the valley Valea Bascovului, named after the village, and wound between the hills. One access route to Bașcov led from the road through this valley. The route connected Beloț, the road, Valea Bascovului and Bașcov within a hilly landscape.

Another road project planned with EU funds, extending over 8 km, was intended to improve access between Sopot, Bașcov and Pietroaia. It was planned to include 4.5 km of asphalt road and 3.5 km of gravel road. The planned project therefore comprised both types of road within a connection measuring 8 km in total.
