Discover Dalnic: Church, Gál Manor House and Underwater Gallery

Culture and History

The ensemble of the Reformed Church of Dalnic comprises a medieval Reformed church with construction phases from the 13th century, a remodelling in 1526 and work carried out in the 19th century. The stone building is believed to have been constructed in the second half of the 13th century. After earthquake debris was removed, a runic inscription and a Latin inscription in Gothic script from the 15th and 16th centuries were discovered in the Reformed Church. For groups, it was also possible to visit the church outside visiting hours by prior arrangement.

The building history can thus be assigned to several periods: the medieval origins were followed by the remodelling in 1526 and the work of the 19th century. The two inscriptions discovered also do not belong to the same era or writing system; runic script appears alongside Latin script in a Gothic form. For a group visit, prior arrangement is the stated organisational framework, even if the appointment takes place outside visiting hours.

In the centre of Dalnic stands a monumental statue of Dózsa György, created by Szobotka András in 1976. A commemorative plaque for Dózsa György, created in 1949, is also located in Dalnic.

The statue and commemorative plaque thus refer to two different forms of public remembrance: the plaque was created in 1949, while the monumental statue dates from 1976 and names Szobotka András as its creator. Both works are associated with Dózsa György in Dalnic, but differ in their year of creation and design.

Gardens and Plants

The Beczásy Garden includes an arboretum with Ginkgo biloba, Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii), Japanese magnolia (Magnolia kobus) and Acer hyrcanum. This maple species is very rare in the area.

The arboretum therefore brings together woody plants from different botanical genera. The scientific names complement the common names: Engelmann spruce is listed as Picea engelmannii, Japanese magnolia as Magnolia kobus, and the rare maple of the area as Acer hyrcanum. Ginkgo biloba is also explicitly part of the selection of plants.

Underwater Experiences

On 17 July 2026, the second underwater photography exhibition was opened at the diver’s lake in Dalnic. It was created in cooperation between My Lake and Visit Covasna. The underwater gallery could be visited from 18 July to 31 August 2026 by prior appointment.

In a diver’s lake in Dalnic, an underwater gallery displayed ten photographs of representative churches in Covasna County at a depth of approximately three metres. The subjects were therefore located below the surface of the lake and focused on churches from Covasna County.

The exhibition had a clearly defined timeframe: the opening on 17 July 2026 was followed by the visiting period from 18 August 2026. Ten images of churches from Covasna County were displayed at a depth of approximately three metres; prior appointment was one of the stated conditions for visiting the gallery.

My Lake’s three-hour diving experience included professional preparation and complete diving equipment. The organised excursion “Excursie în Ținutul Conacelor” also includes Gál Manor House in Dalnic as one of its stops.

The diving experience therefore focuses not only on the photographs, but also on the three-hour duration, professional preparation and complete diving equipment. In its sequence of stops, the organised excursion also connects this water-based offering with Gál Manor House in Dalnic.
