Sulţa: Gorges, Pine Forest and Historical Traces
Near Sulța, paths lead through gorges and past pine forest. The hiking route follows the Sulța River through a section with gorges. A 6–7-hour hiking route from Beleghet to Pasul Ghimeș leads through Sulța. On D.C. 135, the Sulța–Coșnea section was also explored as a possible route as part of the Camino de România project. The route themes thus range from the course of the river to historical traces along various routes.
Hiking and Route Layout
Along the Sulța route, a pine forest can be seen after a sharp bend. The route also leads through steep sections close to houses. Near the upper exit of Sulța, the paved road section ends on the route towards Coșnea. On a hike lasting several hours, the route length is factored into the day’s planning. For paths with different surfaces and steep sections, current route conditions should also be checked. On hikes lasting several hours, duration, surface and gradient determine how the hiking day is scheduled. Individual path sections also matter for day planning, because a longer route may consist of different stretches of terrain.
Landscape
The mountains Muntele Cărunta, Muntele Aluniş and Măgura Lăloaia are located in the area around Sulța. The mountain Tarhauş is also located in the wider surrounding region. The mountains mentioned add distinct landscape references to the course of the Sulța routes. When preparing for a hike, current route conditions and seasonal notices should be checked if a section of the route is included in the day’s plan.
Culture
As of January 2008, the Sulța Museum Point was located in the Școala cu clasele I-IV Sulța. In the wider surrounding region are the churches Biserica Hosasău, Biserica Catolică Frumoasa and Biserica Livezi. The former use of a school building as a museum point is part of the local history, as are the churches mentioned in the surrounding region. When visiting cultural institutions, it is advisable to check the currently applicable opening hours. The museum point thus connects a specific historical time reference with a named school building, while the three churches mark additional cultural destinations in the surrounding region.
History Along the Routes
There is a bunker fortification on the Vadas Ridge. Near Sulța, the route reaches the area of a former Austro-Hungarian barracks. The Sulța–Vadas–Piricske route runs through an area with shelters and World War I trenches. The former barracks and the military installations from World War I are among the various historical sites along the routes mentioned. For routes with historical sites, current path conditions and, where applicable, information about accessibility should be checked before departure. The bunker fortification, the former barracks, and the shelters and trenches thus each represent distinct historical sites.
