Nature and Waterways

The Letea Veche area lies at the confluence of the Siret and Bistrița rivers and within the catchment areas of both rivers. Lake “Balta Albastră” serves as a wintering area for flocks of wild ducks. The Natura 2000 site ROSCI0434 Siretul Mijlociu also includes Letea Veche. The commune also has a 3,271 m² public park. County road DJ207G runs through Letea Veche and Ruși-Ciutea and provides access to the commune from the west. Thus, in and around Letea Veche, river connections, a seasonally significant lake, a Natura 2000 site and a public park come together. Winter is explicitly mentioned at Balta Albastră as the period when wild ducks overwinter. The park complements this natural setting with an in-town green space of clearly specified size.

Archaeology and History

Along the Bacău bypass road lies the Letea Veche archaeological area – Site 6, between km 9+140 and km 9+200. Another archaeological area, Letea Veche – Site 7, is located on the same bypass road between km 10+250 and km 10+320. The historical surroundings include the Lecca manor house in Radomirești. This local listed monument was built in 1895. Each of the two archaeological areas is associated with its own section of the bypass road and its own kilometre reference. Thus, Sites 6 and 7 are two separately named archaeological sites in the Bacău area. The Lecca manor house complements these archaeological references with a single historic building that has local listed-monument status and a recorded year of construction.

Culture in the Surrounding Area

Three different museums are located in the immediate vicinity of Letea Veche: “Complexul Muzeal Iulian Antonescu”, “Galeriile de Artă Bacău” and “Muzeul de Ştiinţe ale Naturii Vivariu”. The monument “Statuia Ecvestra a lui Ştefan cel Mare” is also located nearby. Each of the three museums has its own name, while the monument is another named cultural attraction in the surrounding area. Consequently, the cultural offering includes different institutions and a monument side by side, without combining them into a single attraction.

The peak “La Cornuri” and the island “La Ţigănie” are located in the vicinity of Letea Veche. The wider regional area also includes the mountain “Măgura Mărăşti” and the island “Prundul Mare”. The local festival “Zilele comunei Letea Veche” takes place annually in the first half of September. The 2019 edition of “Zilele Comunei Letea Veche” took place on 7 and 8 September at the Letea Veche sports facility. The “Complexul Sportiv Atletico Arena” sports complex in Letea Veche has a covered football pitch that was completed and put into operation. In addition to the annually specified period, the event is therefore associated with a specific edition held over two September days at a named venue.
