Churches and historic traces in Horgești

The parish church “Sfinţii Împăraţi Constantin şi Elena” was built between 1885 and 1889 by Profira Strat and her son George. The Catholic church “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” was built between 1927 and 1938 in the Gothic style. Both buildings thus represent different chapters of the local sacred architecture. The construction periods of the two churches span from 1885 to 1938.

In the western part of the village of Horgeşti, the cemetery church “Sfinţii Arhangheli Mihail şi Gavriil” is located on Dumbrava Hill. Its iconostasis appears to have been created around 1800. The Biserica Cimitir Horgeşti, classified as a church, is located in the vicinity of Horgeşti. The cemetery church lies in the western part of the village on Dumbrava, while Biserica Cimitir Horgeşti is in the vicinity of Horgeşti.

The wooden church “Sfinţii Voievozi” is a class B historic monument with the code BC-II-m-B-00845. Its roof is covered with shingles whose construction is considered “în coadă de rândunică”. The iconostasis and two bells were taken from the former church in the centre of the village.

Conacul Strat is also part of Horgești’s historic traces: the historic monument dates from 1890 and formerly served as the seat of Horgești Town Hall. In the vicinity there are also Biserica Sohodor, Biserica Galeri and Biserica Năneşti, each classified as a church.
