History
Straja has been documented in records since 1274. The documented history of the village therefore reaches far back and provides the chronological framework for the further historical references to the place.
The Greek Catholic priest and historian Zenovie Pâclișanu was born on 1 May 1886 in Straja, Alba County. Ștefan Manciulea was also born in Straja, Alba County, on 6 December 1894. Both biographical details connect Straja with personalities whose ecclesiastical, historical and social background is visible in the history of the place.
Together with teachers and priests from Straja, Hăpria, Dumitra, Henig, Berghin, Ghirbom and Totoi, Ștefan Manciulea prepared the peasants for the Great National Assembly. The assembly took place on 1 December 1918 in Alba Iulia. Manciulea also organised the delegations' journey there.
Churches
The Biserica Sf. Treime church is located in Straja. Straja also has an Orthodox church. The village therefore has both the Biserica Sf. Treime and an Orthodox church.
Mânăstirea Cergău Mic is a monastery in the wider regional surroundings of Straja. Biserica Cimitir Cergău Mic is a church in the wider regional surroundings of Straja. Biserica Ortodoxă Cergău Mic is an Orthodox church in the wider regional surroundings of Straja. Biserica Sfinţii Arhangheli is a church in the wider regional surroundings of Straja. The four destinations are not located in Straja itself, but in the wider regional surroundings: a monastery, a cemetery church, an Orthodox church and another church.
Landscape
The slopes between Berghin and Straja are predominantly gentle. Only isolated sections exceed 20 degrees. The description of the landscape therefore includes both the predominant inclination of the slopes and the qualification that steeper sections occur only in isolated places.
The terrain around Straja consists of marl, sand and sandy marl. Conglomerates and sandstone are also present. The terrain also includes brightly coloured marly clays. The geological description thus identifies several different types of rock and soil: marl, sand, sandy marl, conglomerates, sandstone and brightly coloured marly clays.
Surroundings
Dealul Draşovului is a hill in the surroundings of Straja. Dealul Ungureiului is a hill in the surroundings of Straja. Dealul Bozului is a hill in the surroundings of Straja. These three elevations are each classified as hills in the surroundings of the village.
Dealul Pleşilor is a mountain in the wider regional surroundings of Straja. The geographical classification of the named elevations therefore differs: three hills are located in the surroundings, while Dealul Pleşilor is assigned to the wider regional surroundings.
Hiking
A described section of the Via Transilvanica near Straja passes a monument. Three Via Transilvanica markings are located at this monument. The route reference therefore identifies the course of the route near Straja, the monument as a notable point and the number of three markings present there.
