Water Landscapes and Paths Around Pateira de Frossos

In addition, the town is one of the 14 municipalities involved in the Caminhos de Fátima project, which aims to create the first official section for pilgrims travelling on foot between Porto and Fátima. More recent culture can also be included: the Mural de Frossos was inaugurated in August 2024 and honours Dona Natália as well as the ancient craft tradition of making Bunho mats. Fábrica Alba is regarded as an important example of metallurgical heritage and was founded in 1921 by Comendador Augusto Martins Pereira. Cineteatro Alba reopened on 27 April 2012. For a culturally focused trip, the Palacete e Castelo da Boa Vista, built by João Patrício Álvares Ferreira as a holiday residence at the end of the 19th century and inaugurated in 1900, and the Mercado Municipal, with its regional products, activities and ideas, also add to the picture of the destination.

The Centro de Interpretação da Pateira de Frossos is housed in a historic building that formerly served as the town hall and prison of Frossos and dates back to 1714. Several exhibitions can be visited there throughout the year. The Guia da Flora presents 50 plant species in detail from among the 280 species currently inventoried, including mosses, ferns and flowering plants. In total, Pateira is home to approximately 280 plant species and around 200 animal species. The interpretation programme also includes an activity on butterflies accompanied by a biologist; 27 species have already been confirmed in Pateira. The butterfly garden in Jardim Didático allows visitors to observe these insects at close range and learn about their behaviour and life cycles through practical activities.
