The Szczecinek municipality lies in the Drawa Lake District and combines marked trails, protected landscapes and historical traces. These include a nature and forest educational trail at Lake Wierzchowo, an extensive hiking trail and a 65.1-kilometre cycling route. Anyone planning a trip to Neustettin can therefore focus on specific interests: bogs and water landscapes, being active on longer routes, or churches and other cultural highlights.

Bogs, lakes and protected nature

Bagno Kusowo covers around 300 hectares and is considered one of the largest and best-preserved Baltic raised bogs in Poland. The bog represents a landscape whose character is clearly different from that of the lakes and marked routes. Also in the Szczecinek municipality is the “Jeziora Szczecineckie” Landscape Protection Area. The “Jezioro Kiełpino” water and flora protection area covers 49.4 hectares and protects relict water plants. These protected areas have different priorities: a raised bog here, a protected lake landscape and rare water plants there.

On the southern shore of Lake Wierzchowo, southeast of Wierzchowo, lies the “Wielkie Błoto” nature and forest educational trail. In addition to its five information boards, it features a wooden boardwalk over the bog and an observation tower. The stations give the visit a clear focus on nature and forests; the boardwalk leads across the bog. Lake Wielimie covers an area of 17.9 square kilometres and is partly within the Szczecinek municipality. Since 24 February 2026, recreational fishing at Lake Wierzchowo has been subject to a new order issued by the municipal head: fishing is permitted only from the shore.

Marked trails and individual highlights

The red-marked “Szlak Wzniesień Moreny Czołowej” hiking trail is 161 kilometres long and runs through the Szczecinek municipality. The stated length refers to the entire trail, not to a single section on site. If you would like to include a shorter, clearly defined cycling route in your plans, you can follow the also red-marked “Szczecineckie Jeziora” cycling route: it is 65.1 kilometres long and runs through Spore, Stare Wierzchowo, Wierzchowo, Trzebiechowo, Kusowo and Dalęcino. The two routes thus differ in both length and means of transport. You can focus on hiking or cycling accordingly, without confusing the routes with each other.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Neustettin, you can first tailor your trip to the activities you have in mind. The educational trail and Bagno Kusowo offer a focus on nature; the two marked routes provide guidance for longer hiking or cycling tours. If you would like to include culture in your trip, you will find churches dating from different centuries and other specific historical sites in the Szczecinek municipality.

Churches, a castle and a mural

In Trzebiechowo, there is a castle complex dating from the second half of the 19th century. There is also a church dedicated to Our Lady of Częstochowa, dating from the third quarter of the 19th century. In Wierzchowo, the 18th-century Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is another landmark.

Other churches reflect different periods: the Holy Family Church in Spore dates from 1859 to 1865, and the All Saints’ Church in Wilcze Laski from 1894. The “Przewodzi Partia” mural from 1975 is also still visible in Wierzchowo. It complements the older churches and castle complex with a feature from a much later period. Another annual event is the aviation picnic in Wilcze Laski, held during the summer holidays.

For further orientation, you can also visit the local pages for Spore, Stare Wierzchowo, Pilawa, Borne Sulinowo, Silnowo, Drezno, Sitno, Szczecinek, Rakowo, Lubowo, Krągi and Sępolno Wielkie.
