Drezno on Lake Studnica: Kayak Routes and Local History

On Lake Studnica, Drezno stands out as a place where the waters and kayak routes shape the character of the surrounding area. The village lies at the mouth of the Bielec stream, where it flows into the lake. Lake Studnica is therefore not only a defining landscape feature, but also a point of reference for two kayak routes that meet here.

Lake Studnica and the Landscape

Lake Studnica covers 102 hectares, is 8.5 kilometres long, and reaches a maximum depth of 25 metres. These figures describe the body of water from three perspectives: area, length, and maximum depth. Nearby, the Gwda flows between Lakes Studnica and Wielimie through the “Lakes of Szczecinek” protected landscape area. Kayak Routes on the Lake

For the Gwda canoe trail, the Stanica ZHP in Drezno is the best starting point. The scout hostel is located on the shore of Lake Studnica. The upper section of the canoe trail begins at the lake and runs for 45 kilometres to Lubnicki Mlyn. The “Pętla Szczecinecka” kayak route also runs across Lake Studnica, here between Drezno and Orawka. A section of the Gwda from this lake to Dołga in the village of Gwda Wielka is also part of this kayak route. The Gwda and “Pętla Szczecinecka” kayak routes meet at Lake Studnica and continue together from there. Another detail on the water concerns the Stanica Harcerska in Drezno: a 12-metre-long pier, more than 2 metres wide, was launched there. The Stanica Harcerska should not be confused with the Stanica ZHP, which is mentioned as the starting point for the Gwda canoe trail.

Historic Places in the Village

Alongside its waters, local history is also part of Drezno’s character. The park dates from the second half of the 19th century and is listed in the WEZ register of historic monuments. The Protestant cemetery dates from the same period. It lies in the eastern part of the village, on a wooded rise south of the Bielec stream, and is also listed in the WEZ register of historic monuments. The park and cemetery thus represent two different aspects of the village’s historical character.
