Gothic church with distinctive features

The parish church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a Gothic building dating from the 15th century. Fieldstone and brick define the building’s materials, and it has a quadrangular floor plan. Its wooden tower, built into the body of the nave, is also striking. These features give the church a clear architectural form that can be distinguished from individual details added later.

These details include the decorative tracery gable dating from the 16th century. One of the church’s bells dates from 1937. A 3.5-metre-high sculpture of Pope John Paul II also stands in front of the entrance. It was created by Aleksander Fatiga, an artist from Krzywin. A visit to the church therefore offers several perspectives: the building’s form, the gable and the bell point to different periods, while the sculpture adds a distinctive touch in front of the entrance.

Cycling routes of different lengths

The blue Południowy Szlak Łącznikowy (Southern Connecting Route) runs from Ognica via Rynica to Krzywin railway station. It is 8.95 kilometres long and follows paved and unpaved roads. For planning a ride, both the route through the named places and the changing road surfaces are important details. The route can be assessed by its actual length; no walking or cycling time can be inferred from this alone.

Another option is the black Banie–Baniewice–Żelechowo–Krzywin cycling route. It is 19.0 kilometres long and ends in Krzywin where it meets the blue “Południowy” cycling route of the Gmina Widuchowa. The two routes therefore differ in length and in their stated starting and ending points. Anyone planning a cycling trip can use this information to factor the routes into their plans without combining the two into a single route.

Natural surroundings and village location

Krzywin is partly within the Dolina Dolnej Odry Natura 2000 site, a Special Protection Area for birds with the code PLB 320003. The village also lies partly within the Dolna Odra Natura 2000 site, a Special Area of Conservation for habitats with the code PLH 320037. The different names and codes refer to two distinct types of protected area. The village layout can also be a factor when choosing a holiday apartment: buildings are concentrated along provincial road 122 on the Krajnik Dolny–Pyrzyce route, as well as along municipal roads.
