St. Maximilian Kolbe Church: Building phases in stone and wood
The church was built from granite blocks in the 15th century. Its tower dates from the 16th century; its lower part is made of stone, and the upper story is made of wood. The church and tower therefore belong to different building phases, and the tower’s material changes between stories. For culture enthusiasts, Binowo offers a clear connection between specific architecture and its historical context.
The church was destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt from 1972 to 1982. It was consecrated on November 7, 1982. The dates distinguish the rebuilding as an extended phase from the single day of consecration; the building’s history thus extends from its construction in the 15th century to its reconsecration. Visitors interested in historic sites will find both older building phases and a clearly dated turning point in the 20th century.
Lake Binowskie: Landscape, dimensions and lakeside recreation
Lake Binowskie lies west of the village in the Bukowe Hills, in the southwestern part of the Puszcza Bukowa forest. It has no outflow and covers 52.4 hectares. At 1.3 kilometers long and 730 meters wide, it is almost twice as long as it is wide. Its average depth is 5.5 meters, and its maximum depth is 9.4 meters. Having no outflow means that the lake has no outlet; its area, shape and depth measurements describe different aspects of the body of water.
