Piasutno – lake, Masurian houses and history

Piasutno offers a range of reasons to visit: Lake Piasutno, sporting events and a history connected with the village’s Polish school. Lake, sports and fishing

Lake Piasutno covers 51.74 hectares. Its average depth is 4 metres, and its maximum depth is 7 metres. It is of interest for holiday planning not only as a body of water: sporting events have also been held on its beach. On 18 July 2026, the Szczytno County Open Beach Volleyball Championships were held there for the 20th time. Twelve women’s, men’s and mixed teams competed in the Brazilian format. The beach volleyball tournament has been held for many years and is jointly organised by the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Świętajno and the Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna in Piasutno. The local fire brigade is therefore involved in the event, as is the cultural centre in Świętajno. The 2026 championships are a past event, so when planning a visit, distinguish between the known event date and a stay at another time.

Fishing is also possible on Lake Piasutno: since 1 January 2025, it has been open to private recreational fishing. Annual and short-term permits are available, among other places, in Szczytno and Olsztyn, as well as through the wedkarz.pzw.pl app. If you would like to include fishing in your trip, the types of permits and places to buy them are specific points to consider before making plans.

Piasutno is also home to “Scrabble nad jeziorem”, a nationwide Scrabble tournament held regularly. Together with beach volleyball, it gives a sense of events with different focuses: team sports on the beach in one case, and a tournament centred on the word game Scrabble in the other. School history and Masurian houses

The Polish school in Piasutno is an important part of the village’s history. It opened in 1931 and was the only Polish school in Masuria at the time. Jerzy Lanc was its first and only teacher.
