Myki lies on the southern shore of Lake Wadąg and on the Wadąg River, in the Olsztyńskie Lake District. Water is also part of the experiences the area has to offer: kayak routes pass through Myki, and a walking and cycling path runs through the village. The landscape is complemented by Myki’s history and a neo-Gothic Warmian chapel at the entrance to the village. When planning your stay, you can focus on a paddling route, getting around on foot or by bike, or exploring the village’s cultural history.

Two kayak routes, each with its own course

A 43-kilometre kayak route runs across Lake Dadaj, along the Dadaj River, across Lake Tumiańskie and Lake Wadąg, and along the Wadąg River to the Łyna; it passes through Myki. A 24-kilometre kayak route runs from Tumiany to Myki. The longer route follows a sequence of named lakes and river sections to the Łyna, while the shorter one is defined by Tumiany and Myki as its starting and ending points. This makes it possible to distinguish between the paddling routes by both length and course. If you are planning a paddling-focused trip, the two routes provide clear guidance for choosing the stretch of water you want to explore.

Towards Olsztyn on foot and by bike

Myki can also be explored via a land route: a walking and cycling path runs from Wadąg through Myki and Zalbki to Wiosenna Street in Olsztyn. This offers a different way to get around and a distinct route alongside the waterways. The difference is clear when planning your trip: the kayak routes are shaped by lakes and river sections, while the places along the walking and cycling path provide points of reference. If you want to explore the area on foot or by bike, you can consider this path separately from your paddling plans.

The village’s founding, name and chapel

The village’s history goes back to 1399, when Myki was founded under the name Miken. The name Myki derives from the Old Prussian first name Micke, which corresponds to the Christian name Nicholas. Another historical milestone is 5 February 1517, when Nicolaus Copernicus founded Myki again. The two dates mark an original foundation and a later refounding; the history of the name also leads back to older forms of language. A neo-Gothic Warmian chapel stands at the entrance to the village. Its architectural style and regional character add a tangible local landmark to the area’s historical connections.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Myki, it is worth considering what you have planned for your stay: the kayak routes offer different lengths and courses, the walking and cycling path provides a land route, and the village’s history and chapel add a cultural dimension. First consider which of these aspects matters most to your trip. This way, Myki becomes more than just a place on Lake Wadąg: its activities and points of interest can also help shape your stay.
