History and Culture

Lipinki Łużyckie and the surrounding area are historically connected with the Żary Land; the first surviving mention of the area dates from 1329.

The wider municipal area of Lipinki Łużyckie includes cultural heritage from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and is associated with Mikołaj Jakubica, who is regarded as the founder of written Lower Sorbian and translated the Bible into the Sorbian language in 1548.

Roads 18 and 12 run through the municipality. They connect the area with the transport routes between Berlin and Wrocław and between Łęknica, Żary, Żagań and Dorohusk.

In Lipinki Łużyckie stands the Church of Saint Anthony of Padua, built of stone and brick. It was constructed in the 14th century and rebuilt in 1822–23.

The church’s chancel contains three movable representations from 1948: of Saint Anthony, Saint Rosalia and Our Lady of Częstochowa.
