History

The fortifications of Lubsko developed between the late 13th and early 14th centuries from early earth-and-timber fortifications into stone walls reinforced with towers. For travelers interested in culture, this development provides a concrete insight into the town’s history.

The town’s medieval defensive history includes walls, gates and towers; the fortifications were modernized in the 15th century.

In the area of Wrocławska Street are the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a former Catholic school and a former chapel, as well as the former Wirsich Villa. There are also several historic sites of tenement houses and other buildings that are listed.

A wall tower has been preserved in Lubsko; it is connected with the town’s medieval fortifications, is listed as dating from the 15th century, and is registered in Poland as an immovable monument.

The former railway station grounds on Dworcowa Street are also part of the area’s transport history; preserved track remains are documented there.
