Reipå offers a variety of experiences for your trip: at Hornneset, sandy beaches meet smooth, wave-polished rock along the open sea, while short paths lead to viewpoints. The history of rural school life is also represented at the Meløy rural museum. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Reipå, these varied interests can help you shape your trip to suit your preferences.

Coast and walks at Hornneset

Hornneset lies west of the centre of Reipå. This stretch of coast combines a sandy beach and a smooth, wave-polished rocky shore along the open sea—two distinct landscapes at the same named location. Two easy routes start from the car park at the western end of Foreveien. The route takes about half an hour and is suitable for hikers of all ages. It offers an option for a shorter walk, while the two routes are another choice for a stay at Hornneset.

Short trails and sweeping views

The hike to the summit of Tuven is an easy 1.2 km out-and-back route. It takes about an hour and involves a total elevation gain of 45 metres. From the highest point, you can see across all of Reipå and Dalen; on a clear day, the Lofoten Wall is also visible. The distance, approximate duration and elevation gain give you concrete details to help plan your day, without requiring a long hike.

Another option is the path at Grimstadskardet. It follows easy terrain to a viewpoint overlooking Grimstad and Mevik. From there, the path continues to Grimstad. The viewpoint and the continuation of the path are distinct landmarks along this route; plan your walk according to the section you would like to explore.

A glimpse of school and coastal life

The Meløy rural museum in Reipå comprises two school buildings dating from 1870 and 1923, and is located on the main road. In the authentic 1923 school building, visitors can see historic classrooms and learn about rural school and boarding-school life. In the basement, an exhibition presents the way of life of fishing farmers, showing how fishing and agriculture shaped coastal life over several centuries. The exhibition paints a picture of life on the coast in the past.

The museum has no regular opening hours, but group visits can be booked in advance. Bear this distinction in mind when planning a museum visit: groups can book ahead, while no regular opening hours are listed.

More activities and types of accommodation

If you explore Reipå by bicycle, you can include the Fjordruta from Ørnes to Inndyr in your plans: this cycling route passes through Reipå. There is a sledding hill with a barbecue shelter in Dalen. By the Reipåelva river, below the cemetery, there is a shelter. It can be reached by following the descent along the west side of the cemetery fence towards Fore, and is easily accessible for pushchairs and wheelchair users. The village therefore offers both a cycling route and named stopping points for walks and other activities.

The water system managed and made accessible for use by Reipåvassdragets Fiskelag includes Reipåga, Markvatnet, Søråga and Svartvatnet. These different waterway names can also help visitors find their bearings if they are interested in the waterscape and how it is used.

Reipå Camping is located on County Road 17. The campsite offers two apartments, nine cabins and pitches with electricity for motorhomes, caravans and tents. These specifically listed accommodation options give you a point of reference if you are considering other types of lodging in addition to holiday apartments.
