In Lindesnes, a vibrant craft tradition, lighthouse history and experiences on rivers and by the water come together. You can see wool products being made on old machinery, learn about the history of Lindesnes fyr, or plan your days around culture, cycling, fishing and boat trips. Which of these aspects interests you most may also shape your choice of location for a holiday rental.

Discover Wool Craft and Culture

Wool products are still made on old machinery at Sjølingstad Uldvarefabrik in the village of Sjølingstad, in Lindesnes municipality. The factory is a living museum factory: visitors can watch the production process and learn not only about the finished wool products but also how they are made. This gives the visit a clear focus on crafts and machinery. The summer programme includes a wool workshop from 20 June to 20 August. Plan your workshop visit between 20 June and 20 August.

Kulturtorvet Vigeland also brings together different kinds of cultural experiences, including an outdoor museum garden and Arne Nikolai Vigeland’s sculpture park. Another historical highlight is Spangereid kirke. The medieval church dates from around 1100 and was converted into a cruciform church in the 1830s. At Neset, the history of Lindesnes fyr, from the 16th century to the present day, is presented. When planning your outings, you can therefore choose between wool craft, sculptures and historical topics.

History and Outdoor Activities

At Skibmannsheia, a former defence hut and listening station has been prepared for day visitors. There is also a coastal warning hut, one of 13 such warning stations along the coast. These two features make Skibmannsheia a destination for travellers interested in the history of defence and coastal warning systems.

Anglers in Lindesnes can choose between two salmon rivers: Mandalselva and Audnaelva. Mandalselva has a 50-kilometre stretch of river suitable for salmon. If you are more interested in a guided activity on the water, Adventure Norway offers a rafting trip along a five-kilometre stretch of river. It lasts around two to three hours, and children aged six and over can take part. Adventure Norway also offers climbing and abseiling at Hesså in Bjelland. The climbing crag is equipped with bolts, and qualified staff secure the participants.

Boat trips offer another way to see the region: the Spangereidkanalen allows you to travel between east and west without going around Lindesnes. For a different kind of outing, the North Sea Cycle Route follows the coast through the region.

Getting Around and Choosing the Right Base

A marked cycle route connects Mandal with Sjølingstad. Local buses are another way to get around Lindesnes. For the hike to Hoveheia, the car park is at the town hall in Vigeland, Rådhusveien 9, 4520 Lindesnes.
