Holiday apartment in America between village paths, forest and De Peel

America invites you on a journey where village history, paths through the landscape and lively events stand side by side. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in America, you can plan your stay around the experiences you want: a short walk through the village, a longer hike in the Schadijkse Bossen, cultural and historical discoveries or a family festival each offer a different focus. This allows you to vary your stay between exercise, history and event days.

Hiking trails with different lengths

On foot, you can start exploring directly in the village: Rundje um America is a 2.5-kilometre hiking route through the village of America. The Turfstekerspad gives hikers the opportunity to explore the varied surroundings of America. At the same time, this trail recreates the historic route from Horst and the surrounding area to the peat fields in De Peel. The short village circuit and the trail with its connection to peat history therefore appeal to different interests: in one case, the village is the focus; in the other, the landscape and its historical use.

For longer days in nature, the Schadijkse Bossen are located near America. They are accessible all year round. The 11.5-kilometre Boswachterspad runs through different types of forest, across shifting dunes, through heathland and past ponds. The 2.5 kilometres of Rundje um America and the 11.5 kilometres of the Boswachterspad offer two different distances for planning: a compact circuit or a more extensive hike. The difference describes the length, not automatically the level of difficulty.

Aan de Drift is a starting point for hikes, cycling tours and activities in which visitors can experience the nature of the Schadijkse Bossen and the Heere Peel. During opening hours, a map showing all current hiking and cycling routes is displayed in the Aan de Drift building. Visitors can use it to put together their own route. This is useful for travel planning if you want to combine hiking and cycling flexibly.

Cultural history and events in America

America also has a cultural and historical side. The R.K. Kerk St. Jozef is a pseudo-basilica built in 1891 and 1892 to a design by the architect J.H.H. Van Groenendael. It has architectural and cultural-historical value in connection with the development of America as a settlement village. The Peelmuseum preserves and provides information about the way of life, customs, occupations and crafts of the former inhabitants of De Peel. When choosing a holiday apartment in America, such destinations can complement nature trails and historical topics during your stay.

Another highlight is Zondag in 't Zuiden. The annual family festival in America is organised by and with Rowwen Hèze and ends with a performance by the band Rowwen Hèze. In addition to hikes, cycling tours and cultural and historical destinations, this adds a recurring event experience. For families who want to vary their shared activities, this combination of nature, village history, a museum and a festival is a useful point of reference when choosing a holiday apartment in America.
